Radar sensors are extremely robust and insensitive. Weather, for example, does not concern them at all. Whether snow, rain or fog, security personnel can rely on functioning detection. The reflected signal is not affected by environmental influences.

Rarely to be found in a single technology: The sensors work independently of lighting conditions. The receiver records every signal from objects within the detection range in the pitch-black of night or with glaring sunlight. False alarms caused by poor visibility are ruled out from the start with this blind measurement procedure.

Radar not only functions independently of weather and light, but is also extremely durable: The functional temperature range of radar technology is quite vast. Negative temperatures in the double digits or desert-like hot temperatures do not impact the sensors. In a harsh environment, e.g. with dust, dirt or moisture, they guarantee their precise capabilities.

Radar sensors do not focus on just one target but monitor all objects within a detection area. In addition, all information about an object is determined at the same time. This means that security personnel will immediately receive all security-relevant information such as position, speed, distance and angle needed to assess the danger situation.

All objects detected via radar are automatically in incognito mode. Due to the lack of imaging, people cannot be identified. This makes it easier to comply with the strict regulations governing the field of surveillance. Applicable laws regarding personal rights also concern the surveillance of private properties. Using sensors, companies secure their premises without collecting any personal data. Despite the lack of a lens, sensor technology offers the possibility of spatial mapping as a localisation technology. The technology represents the objects on a map of the surroundings.

Radar sensors and systems are sophisticated and have a variety of functions. Smart signal processing allows objects to be tracked via the clustering of data points. They distinguish between objects and allocate these to specific categories such as person or vehicle. Irrelevant detected objects, such as a scurrying wild animal, are filtered out by the technology. Sensors can also learn during the filter process: If the filter function sorts out, for example, a fox, it will exclude objects with similar properties in the future (if desired). Thanks to the information from the tracking algorithm, the radar systems trigger an alarm, for instance, or control a connected camera.

Electromagnetic waves have a very high range. Depending on the sensor, very remote objects can be detected. Certain radar systems detect people and of course vehicles at a distance of up to 150 metres. Instead of a multitude of security applications with a small range, one system alone covers the entire area to be protected. The large coverage area buys the security personnel additional time: The earlier a danger situation is detected, the sooner it is possible to initiate important steps for protection.

Security technology is often exposed to vandalism. In particular, video cameras are popular targets. Sensors generally have compact external dimensions. Placed within existing systems or behind a cover, they are hardly noticeable. Radar waves penetrate plastic and can therefore be hidden well and adapted, for example, to the design of a building, a technical system or fence.

The functional components are well camouflaged and protected against dirt by a plastic cover. If dust or dirt manages to reach the sensors nonetheless, this does not compromise functionality. Deploy and forget – even complex radar systems do not require maintenance work. The sensor system reliably performs its service and thus does not entail any effort on the part of the end user after installation, regardless of environmental influences.
