Getting started with radar made easy –

Use evaluation kits to get sensor equipment up and running with ease.

Integrating radar components is a challenge if you lack specific knowledge about the technology. Users are required to take into account various measurement and environmental effects during installation and programming. Making configurations usually entails extensive work in the signal processing and analysis. To enable optimised adaptation and analysis, it is necessary to develop a software program or graphical user interface.

In addition, radar sensors are usually front ends, i.e. they consist of the radar component alone, meaning you usually need additional hardware or interfaces. Such aspects make integrating radar time-consuming and labour-intensive.

That’s why equipment providers frequently offer evaluation kits for commissioning and configuring their electronic components. These are special accessory packages containing company software and other hardware, for example. Such starter kits often include items such as special instruction manuals, cables, and connectors. The development packages are intended to make it easier to perform initial testing and use the electronic devices.

InnoSenT also offers one such complete, carefree package for some products, which help customers integrate and use the radar equipment. The radar experts want to provide a user-friendly platform for getting started with the technology this way. A specially provided software program can be used to visualise the raw data of detections. The software enables various radar parameters to be programmed more easily or adapted to the application requirements. Advanced users also benefit from this and use the open-source evaluation kit to implement their own signal processing. The InnoSenT GUI can be used as a template for end users to create their own software in their corporate design.

Detect initial movements in less than 30 minutes.

The user-friendly evaluation kits minimise barrier to using the technology. They make it easier to get started with radar and thus enable initial tests to be carried out and experience gained.

The video ‘Introduction to SMR Evaluation Kit’ illustrates how easy it is to integrate radar with an InnoSenT Evaluation Kit and shows the individual steps of commissioning, explaining them in simple terms.

The video tutorial is intended for people who wish to integrate radar-based motion detection into their product.

Using the elevation kit, you can get started with motion detection in a snap and with no need to program or utilise additional interfaces. The hardware includes a microcontroller with an interface board and the radar component – the SMR radar front end from InnoSenT.

The successful SMR series is used for motion detection in the areas of home & building automation and security. Thanks to FMCW radar modulation, the sensors enable movements to be detected and speed, direction of movement, and distance measurement to be recorded. You can learn more about the easy-to-install product here.

After you have downloaded the software and correctly connected the evaluation kit to the computer, the video will give you step-by-step guidance. It includes programming the microcontroller and setting the configuration options in the System Workbench software. Next, the tutorial covers the visualisation and interpretation of detection data in the graphical user interface. The radar unit is then ready for conducting tests and measurements.

InnoSenT offers these plug and play development packages not only for simple radar applications such as the SMR series, but also for complex radar systems. One example of this is the product iSYS-6030 for measuring distances. Our sales team will be happy to advise you on the availability and commissioning of InnoSenT’s radar sensors using evaluation kits. A variety of service documents or special accessories can also be found on the company’s download portal.
